15 Months

We had Jocelyn's 15 month appointment on Friday. She got 3 shots and does not like the doctor touching her. Overall, not the highlight of her week! She's growing wonderfully; she weighs 23 lbs, 12 oz and is 30.75". As if she knew it was time to start doing this - she has begun to not want to eat! The doctor asked if she had had days where she wouldn't eat - and she just had started last week. She won't eat nothing all day, but really doesn't eat much and is very particular about what she'll eat. Even her favorite things she's deciding she doesn't want any more. The doctor said it's perfectly normal, and they even out when they have days they eat a whole bunch. Just part of becoming an independent person! She's been really tired and crabby since Friday, so I hope it's just because of the shots and not because she's getting another cold! Winter can't be over soon enough!

Winter Fun

We had a fun day on Monday playing outside in the snow! Jocelyn LOVES going outside, and will walk over to her boots, hats & mittens and bring them to me. She doesn't mind wearing her mittens anymore...she even likes to wear them around the house!

The kids were off school for President's Day, and Mom & Dad were over for a visit. We went sledding (Cal, Kailee and Jocelyn) at a little hill by our house. Jocelyn likes to be pulled in the sled - we couldn't even see her face!

I didn't get any good pictures of them going down the hill. It was pretty bumpy - almost like moguls! I think Calvin's butt still hurts today!

She will go down the slide as many times as someone will put her back up there! It's kinda hard to move with all that winter gear on! I'm really looking forward to summer - I think we'll have a fun time being outside and playing.

Painting

Saturday I had Jocelyn do a Valentine's Day painting project. There's a reason we leave the painting to day care! I started out making a potato stamper, but didn't make the heart flat enough, so it just looked like a pink blob. Then I cut a heart out of a sponge, and that worked better. She likes to squish everything, so she did good at pushing the sponge down good and hard. Then we used a brush and that's when the mess started. She wanted to chew on the brush, which led to paint in the mouth, on her face, on my face, and the table. Everywhere but the paper. :) But she had a blast until it was time to get cleaned up. Luckily the paint comes off with just water, so it wasn't too bad. I think we'll wait a few more months to do that again - hopefully she'll be mostly over putting stuff in her mouth by then!

First Word

Jocelyn has said her first word! It is 'bye-bye'. We went to Mom and Dad's for the weekend, and she was playing with the pop-up toy - where you push the button, move the switch, etc. and the charcter pops up. She would push it down, then Mom would say 'bye-bye' and wave. Then she'd push the button, it would pop up, and the cycle would start again. About half way thru she started to say 'ba-ba' when she waved. I wasn't convinced she really knew what she was saying though, until we left. Then I told her to say goodbye to Grandma and Grandpa, and she said it again while she waved. Yeah!

Now, I should say that she has said words before - she says 'mama', the 'p' sound for Grandpa/Bumpa and 'no'. But she's never said it at the right time or unprompted. We're looking forward to this new stage - I love all the funny things kids say!

A Weekend of Firsts

We had a fun weekend last weekend. We're still not over our colds, but we're feeling better and needed to do something fun. Saturday Calvin had to work, so it was just me and the girls. We did grocery shopping and a few other errands, then headed over to the mall and played at the play place. Jocelyn is finally not scared to play with other kids, so she had fun crawling thru tunnels and thought it was neat that Kailee was there with her. They both did so well while out and about that we had McDonald's for lunch. It was Jocelyn's first Happy Meal! She loved the fries, and ate some of the cheeseburger.

She thinks it's pretty neat if I give her a whole of anything - she feels like a big girl, I think.Saturday wasn't too cold so we went outside for a bit and went down the slide and played fetch with Ellie. She HATES wearing mittens and cries whenever I put them on. She did leave the other one on after I scolded her, but she was not happy about it.Kailee didn't have school on Monday, so we decided to take a 'staycation' on Sunday night at our local Holiday Inn Express for a fun evening of swimming and pizza!It was her first time swimming, and she did really well! She wanted to drink the water, but wasn't scared at all, and liked to swim on her tummy. We went swimming right away on Sunday evening when we got there, but only went for a bit because the Vikings were on! (and we were hungry) Watching the sad game. Jocelyn is pointing out her barrette. She's very proud of it...she even points it out to strangers at Target.

Putting the presents to use!

Now that Christmas is over, we're all healthy, and things have settled down a bit, we're enjoying all the fun new things we got for Christmas!

Kailee's puzzle from Mom & Dad. It took us two nights to finish! She got our sickness this weekend, so it was a good time to work on it.

I put bubbles in her bath for the first time - she wasn't quite sure what they were, but thought they were fun to touch.

Signs

Jocelyn is learning all sorts of new things lately! It really seems as though she's understanding so much more, and just gets frustrated that she can't talk! She'll have conversations with us, but just babbles - so funny! Here are the signs she knows, along with some body parts. On the nose part - she doesn't point to her nose (ever) she just scrunches it up and blows air in & out. :)

She had her first round of throwing up last weekend. Ick. Poor little thing. She obviously had no idea what was going on, and just was so sad about it. She's feeling better now, but shared her sickness with both Calvin and I. I think it's going around - lots of people have gotten the same thing. Hopefully we'll be done for a while now!
