Vacation Part 1

The week of Thanksgiving Calvin and I both took some vacation time.  I love vacation time!  Calvin started his out by going deer hunting.  He didn't get anything, but he had a good time.  Then Monday we headed down to Ft. Leonardwood, MO where his youngest brother, Cory was graduating from boot camp.  It's quite a drive - about 10 hours.  I wasn't looking forward to the drive as I really don't like riding in the car, but it went by fast and we had a good time.  Tuesday was family day.  We started out with a briefing about what we were allowed to do that day, along with some info about what he'd been doing for the last 14 weeks.  I know I'd last about 1 second at boot camp.

This is how we found him when we came outside - there were 3 groups of about 60 guys and we had to pick him out!  He's in the last row, second from the left.

His barracks.  They got to move into these new ones part way thru his time there.  We didn't get to go inside, but he said they were pretty nice.
What a handsome guy!  He looked so different from when we last saw him in August.  He lost about 40 pounds, and I don't think I'd ever seen his shirt tucked in or a belt around his waist!

We had about 4 1/2 hours with him, and it's not a very exciting town, so we went back to the hotel, ordered pizza and hung out.  Cory told us stories the whole time!
Calvin was still tired from deer hunting...
 So was Pat.

Wednesday was graduation day!  Here we are waiting for the ceremony to begin.  I will say one thing about the Army - they're very prompt.  Which I love!  It started exactly at 9:00.

Way to go Cor!  We're all so very proud of you!!!
We left right after graduation on Wednesday, and weren't sure if we were going to make it home - snow/ice/freezing ickiness was predicted.  But, we made it without incident and were all glad to sleep in our own beds!  Cory is now home until Dec. 20th when he has to be in St. Louis to head over to Germany where he'll be stationed.  We're enjoying the time we have with him now as he doesn't know when he'll be home again next.  What an amazing adventure he's on!
